The Great Irish Famine of the 1840s is considered to be the single greatest social disaster that occurred in 19th-century Europe.
Over 2 million people – almost a quarter of the entire population – either died or emigrated in what became known as ‘An Gorta Mór’: The Great Hunger. Some of those who emmigrated were Farrells. Some of you may be able to trace your ancestors back to this sad time in our history.

The Tour will visit The National Famine Museum and Strokestown Park House and gardens where you can see the story of the emmigrants first hand for youself. You will learn about The Famine Walk and visit Richmond Harbour Clondra, where the Walk along The Royal Canal began.
Afternoon: 14.00pm approx. We will stop in Clondra for lunch location to be advise nearer the event.
Evening: 18.00pm approx. return to drop off opposite Lidl on the Dublin Road.
