Maureen Farrell
ASSISTANT TREASURER –

I have only been involved with The Farrell Clan for less than 2 years but I have always had a huge interest in it.

I ran a successful Irish dancing school in the past and my dancers have performed at Farrell Clan rallies. I intended for many years to join the Farrell Clan but just never got round to it. At a Farrell Clan rally some years back two ladies who attended claimed they were related to our Farrell family.  This was brought to my attention by the late Harry Farrell who gave me details to contact them. Unfortunately life was too busy at the time and it is only following a recent DNA test that I realised that the two  ladies are definitely related to me.  I am presently trying to make contact with their families.

My Farrell ancestors originally came from Moydow but at a later stage certain members of my family settled in Whiterock a couple of miles outside Longford town in the area of Shroid. Although none of our family any longer live in Whiterock I still have strong connections with the Shroid area and it will always remain my home area with precious memories. I am so glad to see that our ancestral home is now owned by a local family who have done a fabulous job renovating it and it is lovely that our family can go back and visit any time. My late father, Leo Farrell, was the founder of Shroid Slashers GAA Club which he first started in his own field. My family and I have contributed  to Shroid Slashers Scor na nOg over the years in irish music and dance. It is sad to see both Shroid GAA Club and Shroid church closed  currently and I hope in the future they will both be in operation again.
Although my Farrell family have been long associated with Whiterock my late grandfather, Patrick Farrell, is buried in Moydow. Patrick, Francis and Elizabeth have been first names associated with our Farrell family for generations. Moydow has always held a special place in my heart for me. I taught Irish dancing in Moydow for many years and I have always felt perfectly at home there. Obviously I have always felt the strong connection with Moydow.
I am delighted to have been elected as Assistant Treasurer of the Farrell Clan. I am very much looking forward to the Farrell Clan 2026 rally and the various events.
I am hoping that some of my Farrell relatives from the USA will be able to come to it. As a lover of Irish traditional music, song and dance I  am aware of the many musical groups available and I am hoping to especially contribute to the Farrell Clan in this regard.
