The highlight of the 2026 International Farrell Clan Rally will be the inaugaration of our new Chieftain, Charlotte. Charlotte takes over the mantle of Chieftain from her father, Conal, who has lead the Clan with distinction since 1993. Conal was inaugarated as the first Chieftain of modern times at a ceremony in Moatfarrell,an ancient site associated with the Farrells.
On this occasion will travel together to Granard ( Grian Árd /The Hill of the Sun) for the ceremony. The inaugaration will take place on top of Granard motte in the shadow of the statue of St Patrick, thus bringing our rich Celtic and Christian heritage together.
The inaugaration will be hosted by Knights and Conquests, at the base of the Motte, whwer we will spend and afternoon of celebration.
Day 3
On Wednesday our focus will turn to South Longford and in particular Keenagh. We will see the Clock Tower, Mosstown Estate and visit the historic Church of Ireland and hear of their Farrell connections.

Day 4
The Great Irish Famine of the 1840s is considered to be the single greatest social disaster that occurred in 19th-century Europe.
Over 2 million people – almost a quarter of the entire population – either died or emigrated in what became known as ‘An Gorta Mór’: the Great Hunger. Some of those who emmigrated were Farrells. Some of you may be able to trace your ancestors back to this sad time in our history.
On Thursday we will visit The National Famine Museum and Strokestown Park House and gardens where you can see the story of the emmigrants first hand for youself.
You will learn about The Famine Walk and visit Richmond Harbour Clondra, where the Walk along The Royal Canal began.
On our return to Longford in the evening we will enjoy a traditional Irish session of music and dance.
